From 1 to 11 July 2007, the first Meisterklasse organized in the framework of the newly established Center of Excellence 16 “Cultural Foundations of Integration” turned to cultural sociology and the iconic turn. What is an image? How can we understand its relation to reality? Chaired by Jeffrey C. Alexander (Yale), Jan Assmann (Konstanz), Hans Belting (Karlsruhe), Gottfried Boehm (Basel), Karin Knorr (Konstanz), and Piotr Sztompka (Krakow), the Meisterklasse was searching for answers.
