Geoffrey Hartman, Dominick LaCapra, Hayden White

This edition of the Meisterklasse took place from 19 to 27 July 2009. As Masters were invited Geoffrey Hartman (Yale), Dominick LaCapra (Cornell), and Hayden White (Santa Cruz). They discussed with Fellows questions like: how do societies cope with violence? What kind of traces do traumatic experiences leave in the collective memories of victim and perpetrator societies? Can a cultural trauma be narrated and worked through in an appropriate manner?
